Kalpataru 2023
“Looking to be inspired…? Look no further than the New York Times and Nicholas Kristof’s article honoring the incredible work and legacy of New Light Kolkata…
Urmi Basu, Founder/Director of New Light, Kolkata, India, and Zuleikha, Founder/Director of The Storydancer Project, collaborated to create Kalpataru, a groundbreaking restorative program for women trafficked in the sex trade.
“This program is a gift of joy to women who have absolutely nothing.” —Urmi Basu
“When we all come together in this work, hearts overflow with the care and love that nurture our beings. In this way, we are touched and can begin again.” —Zuleikha
At no point in history have more people been enslaved than are currently forced into labor and the sex trade by human traffickers. Women and girls comprise 99% of all those trafficked into forced prostitution.
Please consider a donation to help bring relief, tools for self-care and self-expression, joy and the power of connection to the women and families of Kalpataru!
